Apple AirTag (2nd generation)
Apple’s second-generation AirTag, launched in January 2026, keeps the original’s 31.9 mm disc shape but adds Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip for longer-range Precision Finding and a louder speaker. It works only with iPhone and iPad through the Find My network, is rated IP67 and uses a replaceable CR2032 coin cell.
Uses Apple’s Find My network, so you need an iPhone or iPad to set it up — it can’t be added to an Android phone.

Good to know
- It needs an iPhone or iPad to set up — there is no Android app. Android phones can, however, detect an unknown AirTag travelling with them.
- Precision Finding needs an iPhone with Ultra Wideband, and the expanded range needs iPhone Air or iPhone 15 and later (except iPhone 16e and 17e).
- It has no hole for a key ring. You need a holder, loop or case — see accessories.
- Apple says AirTag is designed to track items, not people or pets.
